A former student of Buruburu Girls High School has spoken publicly about what she alleges was a difficult experience with bullying during her time at the institution, following the recent controversy surrounding an incident involving Jahenda in a school washroom.
The former student shared her account in a video posted on Instagram by Kenyan Baddies Club. She said she was in the same class as a woman identified as Vania and had never previously discussed her alleged experiences publicly.
According to the former student, the widely discussed Jahenda incident prompted her to revisit memories from her own time in school and eventually speak about them. She alleged that she experienced both physical and emotional bullying while in Form Four, saying the emotional aspect had a particularly lasting effect on her wellbeing and confidence.
She claimed that Vania often behaved in an intimidating manner and made comments that left her feeling powerless. The former student further alleged that other students also experienced similar treatment but emphasized that she was sharing her personal account.
She said the alleged experiences continued to affect her self-esteem and confidence even after completing secondary school. While becoming emotional during the video, she described how she believed high school had changed her, saying she entered the institution as one person but left feeling significantly different.
The former student also recalled an alleged threat from Vania, claiming that she was told she would have a difficult time while at school. She said seeking assistance was challenging because, according to her, some students were afraid to speak out.
Reflecting on the recent controversy involving Jahenda, the former student expressed sympathy and apologized to her for what she allegedly endured. She also called for accountability and questioned whether authorities could intervene in the matter.
At the same time, she appealed for assistance for Vania, suggesting that the woman could also be dealing with personal difficulties that may require attention.
The allegations have since sparked reactions online, with discussions focusing on bullying, accountability and the experiences of students in schools.
However, the claims made by the former student remain allegations and have not been independently verified. There has also been no established finding confirming the accusations against Vania based solely on the account shared in the video.
