In a startling incident that unfolded on Monday morning, a driver disappeared with a staggering Ksh94 million, which he had been entrusted to transport to a local bank situated in the heart of the Central Business District (CBD). The driver was accompanied by the crew commander of the security firm, and their mission was to deliver the substantial sum to a supermarket outlet within Nairobi.

This audacious heist reportedly occurred at precisely 6:00 a.m., when the two individuals abandoned the vehicle that had been used to retrieve the funds from the security firm’s vault. Their mysterious disappearance further confounded investigators, as preliminary findings indicate that the vehicle was discarded within Nairobi’s South C estate, and there was no trace of the money.

What makes this incident all the more perplexing is the absence of the customary police escort for the cash transfer, prompting authorities to suspect that the heist had been meticulously planned in advance. Notably, it was the alertness of the Administration Police (AP) officers, who were originally assigned to accompany the driver, that first raised the alarm. The company’s investigation manager swiftly reported the matter to the Akila Police Station in Lang’ata, prompting the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) to take up the case.

As of the time of this report, the security firm had not issued any official statement regarding the shocking heist. Security firms play a crucial role in cash-in-transit services for banks and businesses handling substantial financial transactions, with AP officers providing essential escort services to ensure the safe transport of money.

While there is partial linkage between employee crimes and financial desperation, comprehensive data analysis is necessary to fully comprehend the surge in employee convictions, as indicated by the KNBS.
