Jamaican dancehall icon Vybz Kartel has announced plans to perform in Kenya in 2025, marking one of his first international shows since his release from prison in 2024.
The artist, whose real name is Adidja Palmer, was freed after his 2014 murder conviction was overturned due to juror misconduct.
In a recent interview, Kartel expressed his deep connection with Kenyan fans, stating, “The people of Kenya consider me one of their own.” He emphasized that Kenya is a top destination on his upcoming African tour, which will also include performances in Ghana, Zimbabwe, Nigeria, Rwanda, and Senegal.
Kenya ranks among the top five countries with the largest Vybz Kartel fanbases globally, alongside the U.S., U.K., Canada, and Costa Rica. His music enjoys widespread popularity in Kenyan communities such as Mombasa, Kayole, Mathare, and Kibera, where fans have embraced his “Gaza” crew identity.
Kartel’s return to the stage began with a sold-out New Year’s Eve concert at Jamaica’s National Stadium, his first live performance in 13 years. The event featured appearances by artists like Busta Rhymes, Popcaan, and Spice, and was hailed as a triumphant comeback.
While specific dates and venues for the Kenyan concert have yet to be announced, fans are eagerly anticipating the event. Many have taken to social media to express their excitement, with some suggesting major venues like Kasarani or Nyayo Stadium to accommodate the expected large turnout.
As Kartel prepares for his African tour, Kenyan fans are ready to welcome the “Worl’ Boss” with open arms.
