For Kisii County Women Representative Dorice Donya, the 2027 general election is not like any other political contest. To her, it will be the most defining political moment and Kisii County women in general.
After her surprise win in 2022 where she pulled a shocker to defeat the incumbent, Junet Ong’era, Donya is now keen to make more history.
With months to the next general election, Donya has made her intentions clear that she will not be defending her seat. Instead, she has joined race for the Bonchari MP position.
The Boncbari MP seat is currently held by Charles Ochoke of the United Progressive Alliance which is associated with Nyamira County Governor Amos Nyaribo.
Initially, the party was linked with former interior Cabinet Secretary Dr Fred Matiang’i, who is now the Jubilee Party deputy leader.
Already, Donya, who was elected on a Wiper Party ticket, has decamped to the ruling UDA party.
This development lays stage for a major political showdown pitting Onchoke and Donya.
