In February 2023, the tragic death of Young Jeff Mwathi, an interior designer who died after falling from a high-rise apartment in Kasarani, shocked Kenya. Mwathi had been visiting the apartment of DJ Fatxo, a well-known Mugithi musician, who had invited him over.

The incident sparked widespread public outcry and scrutiny towards DJ Fatxo, though he was ultimately cleared of any wrongdoing in Mwathi’s death. Despite this, Mwathi’s mother, Anita, remained unconvinced by the conclusions of the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI).

Anita continues to honor her son’s memory in heartfelt ways, including maintaining his grave meticulously. A recent video shared on TikTok shows her cleaning his gravestone, a beautifully crafted marble piece shaped like a bible, featuring a verse, his photograph, and a cross. The grave inscription reads, “Nothing can separate us from the love of Christ, not even death,” on one side, and “I have fought the good fight, I have kept the faith, I have finished the race,” on the other.

In the video, Anita, accompanied by another woman, is seen washing the grave with soap and water. After cleaning, Anita lays on the grave, singing lovingly to her son, a stark contrast to her previous public appearances marked by grief and tears. This touching moment has resonated deeply with viewers, many of whom have expressed solidarity and shared their own experiences of loss in the comments section.

The unresolved circumstances of Mwathi’s death continue to stir emotions and discussions among Kenyans, with many feeling that justice was not adequately served. The case has left a lasting impact, not only on Mwathi’s family but also on the public consciousness, highlighting issues of accountability and the effects of sudden loss.
