Pastor Victor Kanyari has spoken publicly for the first time after days of intense online speculation surrounding the death of his ex-wife, gospel singer Betty Bayo.
In a heartfelt message shared on his Facebook page, Kanyari appeared emotional as he addressed rumours, criticism and public debate.
He said he would not allow himself to be drawn into online fights.
“This is their moment to talk, speculate and trend,” he wrote, noting that he had chosen a calmer path.
Kanyari said he has watched people on the internet judge him and create stories about his life and pain.
He acknowledged that some of what has been said is true, while much of it is false or meant to provoke him.
He stressed that he was not defending himself, but simply seeking clarity and peace.
“I am a father before I am anything else,” he said, explaining that his biggest responsibility is to his children, Sky and Danny, who have lost their mother.
He added that his focus has been helping them through grief.
“People will always talk; that is the nature of the world. God’s opinion is greater than public opinion,” he wrote.
Kanyari said he is committed to ensuring his children lack nothing and thanked those who prayed for him and refused to believe harmful rumours.
He also said he has forgiven people who turned his pain into entertainment.
His message comes days after Betty Bayo’s mother, Joyce Mbugua, questioned the circumstances of her daughter’s death.
She demanded an autopsy report and raised concerns about the children’s custody, sparking further online debate.
Since then, content creators and commentators have analysed every detail, often with little sensitivity.
“The mother of my children deserves peace. My children deserve respect. And I deserve space to mourn in dignity,” Kanyari said.
