The University of Nairobi is planning to construct 4,000 new student hostel beds across its campuses.

A feasibility study for the project was completed in October 2024, and the report was approved in February 2025.

The new hostels will be built using a 30-year design, build, finance, operate, and transfer (DBFOT) model, meaning the chosen firm will handle all aspects from design and construction to financing and operations.

The new bed capacity will be distributed as follows: 2,000 beds at the Main Campus, 1,000 beds at Chiromo Campus, and 1,000 beds at Kenyatta Medical Campus.
