Most people in Kakamega believed Nuru Okanga only used the money he received from Oscar Sudi to set up a small posho mill.
Behind the scenes, however, he directed the funds into projects that touched more lives than expected.
At the end of 2024, Okanga appeared on Oga Obinna’s show, where he spoke about his financial struggles.
During the same interview, Kapseret Member of Parliament Oscar Sudi pledged to give him KSh 1.2 million and later delivered KSh 700,000.
The money immediately altered Okanga’s circumstances.
He invested part of the funds in a posho mill and a poultry farm in his rural home in Kakamega.
These ventures provided him with a steady daily income and marked a shift from dependence to self-reliance.
Okanga also directed a significant portion of the gift to young people in his village who had completed secondary school but could not collect their certificates due to outstanding fees.
For those families, the money cleared long-standing barriers and allowed the students to move forward.
The local church also benefited from his support.
What began as an individual rescue turned into a shared community resource. Before the gift, Okanga had little to spare.
Afterward, he became a figure who channelled external support into his village.
The winners were the youths who gained their certificates, the villagers who accessed a new service, and the congregation that received help.
The losers were those who expected Okanga to keep the money solely for himself.
The turning point came when he chose to share, shifting public perception from a struggling man to an unexpected provider.
