Former President Uhuru Kenyatta paid a moving tribute to Raila Odinga, describing him as a symbol of peace, democracy, and the fight for human rights. Speaking during Raila’s state funeral at Nyayo National Stadium, Uhuru called on Kenyans to uphold Raila’s principles and keep his legacy alive for eternity.

Uhuru affirmed that Kenya’s political history would remain incomplete without Raila’s name written boldly across its pages. He said Raila’s leadership stood for fairness, truth, and justice, qualities that inspired both allies and opponents alike.

He praised Raila as a leader who never allowed ethnicity to define his relationships with Kenyans. According to Uhuru, Raila treated all citizens equally and valued people for their character and ideas rather than their backgrounds.

Uhuru extended his condolences to Mama Ida Odinga and her children, promising to stand by them during this difficult period. He emphasized that Raila’s spirit would continue to guide Kenya toward unity and peace even in his absence.

In a light-hearted moment, Uhuru reminisced about his friendship with Raila, recalling evenings when they shared “porridge and tea” while reflecting on their fathers and Kenya’s founding heroes. He said those talks often centered on the sacrifices made by earlier generations for the nation’s freedom.

Uhuru added that he now finds comfort knowing Raila is reunited with those ancestors in a place of peace. He joked that although he was not in a hurry to join them, he believed Raila would one day welcome his old friends on the other side.

Reflecting on their 2018 handshake, Uhuru said it symbolized forgiveness and unity. He concluded by urging Kenyans to honor Raila’s memory through love, tolerance, and continued pursuit of justice for all.
