Three months after the August 9th polls, political leaders from Mt Kenya Region are working to unite the region that supported President William Ruto’s presidential bid overwhelmingly despite the Former President Uhuru Kenyatta urging them to support the Azimio La Umoja One Kenya Alliance’s Raila Odinga.

After the polls, some of the leaders from Jubilee party seem to be angling towards the Kenya Kwanza Camp, by recognizing that the Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua as the most powerful leader from the region and the region’s kingpin.

Those from Azimio in Jubilee party have defended themselves saying that they are soldiering to ensure that the region is united, and that means rallying behind Gachagua.

However, Jubilee Party Secretary General Jeremiah Kioni opines that it is not easy to unite the region as some of the leaders might think, claiming that Uhuru tried uniting the region and rallying them behind Raila and he failed to deliver.

He said that the region can only be united by all the leaders and the goodwill of the locals, claiming that Gachagua was also not going to unite them.

“Former President Uhuru spent five years telling the people of the Mt Kenya region to be united, but they did not. He did not succeed in rallying the mountain behind Raila. Gachagua will also follow that path.”
