Gen Muhoozi Kainerugaba, the first son of Uganda, has publicly apologised for the violence caused during the previously held elections.
Gen Muhoozi’s apology came after Sky News posted footage of deadly violence that described Uganda’s election period during the internet blackout.
The reports by Sky News came as a shock to the nation, which did not know what was happening on the ground amidst the internet blackout.
The videos and scenes forced Gen Muhoozi Kainerugaba, the Chief of Defence Forces of Uganda, to acknowledge his mistake and ask for forgiveness.
“I want to apologise to our millions of supporters for the recent reports by Sky News. These evils were brought upon us by someone who claims to be my relative. A tragic situation, if ever there was one,” Gen Muhoozi wrote on his official X page.
The fact that Gen Muhoozi acknowledged his mistake makes it clear that indeed there was violence throughout the entire election process.
The CDF, however, did not communicate what comes next after his apology. Whether those affected will be compensated is something that no one knows yet.
Uganda is still in the post-election phase, and the tense political climate is still not settled, as some are still contesting the results.
