A devastating fuel tanker explosion along the Muhoroni–Londiani Highway on Saturday morning left two firefighters injured while battling the ensuing inferno. The accident occurred at around 6:45 a.m. near the Ushirika Center when the tanker, transporting petroleum products, overturned and burst into flames.

Eyewitnesses reported that the tanker lost control and rolled over, sparking a massive fire that quickly engulfed the vehicle. The blaze prompted an immediate emergency response, with firefighters arriving swiftly to contain the situation. Unfortunately, two of them sustained injuries due to the intensity of the flames and the volatile nature of the fuel.

Local authorities confirmed that the tanker was completely destroyed, but no fatalities were reported. The injured firefighters were rushed to a nearby medical facility for treatment and are reported to be in stable condition.

Residents of the area expressed concerns over the increasing number of accidents involving fuel tankers along the highway. Many called for stricter regulations and improved road safety measures to prevent such incidents in the future.

This explosion follows another similar accident just days earlier, where a fuel tanker collided with a lorry along the Nairobi-Mombasa Highway near Mtito Andei, causing a major fire. Such incidents highlight the dangers associated with fuel transportation and the need for enhanced safety measures.

Authorities have launched an investigation into the Muhoroni–Londiani accident to determine the cause and assess whether preventive actions could have mitigated the disaster.

Meanwhile, road safety experts urge transport companies to ensure their vehicles are well-maintained and that drivers adhere to strict safety protocols. Enhanced emergency preparedness and stricter regulations are essential to minimizing such tragic occurrences in the future.
