Ruiru

A dramatic road incident has been captured on camera in Ruiru after a passenger train crashed into a car whose driver reportedly failed to heed repeated warning horns from the locomotive.

The footage shows the vehicle approaching a railway crossing as the train moves towards the same section of the road. The locomotive appears to sound its horn repeatedly as it approaches the crossing.

As the train gets closer, the car appears to remain dangerously close to the railway line. Moments later, the locomotive strikes the vehicle, leaving it caught in the path of the moving train.

The incident unfolds as pedestrians and other motorists watch from nearby. Another vehicle can also be seen close to the crossing as the train continues moving along the tracks.

The footage captures the train occupying the crossing for several seconds, with people standing on either side of the railway line watching the unfolding incident.

The circumstances surrounding the collision have not been independently established. It is also unclear whether the driver sustained injuries, whether other people were inside the vehicle or whether anyone else was affected.

The video shared has drawn attention to the dangers motorists face when approaching railway crossings without exercising caution.

Railway crossings require motorists to remain alert because trains cannot stop as quickly as ordinary road vehicles. Even when emergency brakes are applied, a moving locomotive may require considerable distance to come to a complete stop.

Drivers are therefore expected to slow down, check for approaching trains and give railway traffic priority before attempting to cross the tracks.

The incident in Ruiru serves as another reminder of the importance of obeying railway safety warnings, particularly in areas where roads and railway lines intersect.
