Sad scenes unfolded on Tuesday morning, May 14, after a school bus carrying students was involved in a fatal road accident along the Iganga–Mbale Highway at Butongole, near the railway crossing from the Iganga side in Uganda.
According to preliminary reports, the bus, owned by Amuria High School, was transporting students from St. Paul Katakwi Secondary School for a study tour when it crashed into a stationary truck that had reportedly broken down along the road.
Images circulating online showed the front of the bus lodged underneath the rear of the truck, highlighting the severity of the impact.
The bus driver was confirmed dead at the scene. By the time of publication, authorities had not released the exact number of casualties.
Several students sustained injuries of varying severity and were rushed to Iganga General Hospital in Nakavule for medical treatment. Emergency responders and police officers quickly arrived at the scene, rescued the injured, and launched investigations to establish the circumstances that led to the crash.
