A massive fire erupted in the early hours of Saturday at Barnabas, just a few kilometres from Nakuru town.
Eyewitnesses say the fire reportedly started around 2:00 a.m. after a fuel tanker exploded, igniting several other tankers parked nearby.
The inferno quickly spread, engulfing multiple vehicles, including two fuel tankers and two cargo trucks, one of which was carrying timber.
Fortunately, no casualties have been reported so far. However, the fire caused significant disruptions, leading to the temporary closure of the Nakuru–Nairobi Highway and affecting traffic flow in the area.
Authorities are urging motorists to avoid the area and seek alternative routes as cleanup operations continue.
“Moto imeanza saa nane kama na dakika tano hapo, na sahii ni saa kumi na moja. Tunashukuru hata kama inaendelea hapa na pale, moto imezima na tunashukuru sana. Na kitu naweza sema, Wakenya wajifundishe — moto imetokea pale Barnabas. Ni vizuri kukimbia, lakini wajihadhari,” said a boda boda rider David Macharia.
The cause of the explosion remains under investigation.
