Several prominent political figures attended the official launch of the Democracy for Citizens Party (DCP) by former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua on May 15, 2025. The event marked a significant milestone in Gachagua’s political roadmap towards the 2027 general election.

Speaking at the launch, Gachagua unveiled the interim leadership of the new party, noting that the names had already been submitted to the Registrar of Political Parties for ratification. Interestingly, no current elected leaders were included in the party’s leadership, signaling a strategic move to build a fresh team of trusted allies.

Among those named were former UDA and Jubilee heavyweights. Former UDA Secretary General Cleophas Malala was appointed Deputy Party Leader, while former Cabinet Secretary Mithika Linturi took the role of interim National Organising Secretary. Former Laikipia Woman Representative Catherine Waruguru was named National Women Leader.

Others appointed include David Mingati (National Chairperson), Peter Mwathi (Deputy Chairperson, Strategy), Margaret Sarah Owino (Deputy Chairperson, Operations), Hezron Obanga (Interim Secretary General), Martin Kamwaro (Deputy Secretary General), Anne Mutua (National Treasurer), and Wambiru Njoka (Deputy Treasurer, Strategy). The launch also featured the naming of a caucus of eminent persons to be chaired by former Starehe MP.
