Detectives have arrested a popular TikTok content creator, Roy Otieno Odhiambo, following a viral video in which he claimed he had been paid to carry out an assassination. The arrest came after his shocking confession attracted widespread attention both online and from security agencies.
In the now widely shared video, Odhiambo alleged that he received three and a half million shillings to eliminate a well-known person. He did not mention the name of the target, but his message sparked immediate concern among Kenyans. The Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) quickly launched a probe to establish whether the claim was real or a publicity stunt.
According to investigators, the suspect’s social media posts and digital trail are being examined as part of the ongoing inquiry. Detectives are also tracking possible individuals linked to the alleged payment to determine if there was an actual assassination plan.
At this stage, authorities have not confirmed the authenticity of Odhiambo’s claims. It remains uncertain whether he was genuinely involved in any criminal arrangement or if the statement was made to attract attention on social media. However, the DCI is treating the matter seriously, citing the potential threat such claims pose to public safety.
The arrest has reignited debate about the misuse of social media platforms like TikTok. While the platforms provide space for creativity and interaction, they have also become grounds for false information, threats, and dangerous pranks. Security agencies warn that any statements suggesting violence, even made in jest, can attract severe legal consequences.
