Millie Odhiambo1

Suba North MP Millie Odhiambo has come out clearly to speak against gender based violence. She said she does not support violence in any form.According to Millie, love should never turn into pain, beating, or suffering.

She used a simple example to explain her point. She said love is like peremende. It is sweet at the beginning, but one day it can end. When it ends, she said, people should just walk away.

Millie Odhiambo said forcing love is very dangerous. When a relationship reaches a point where there is fighting, insults, or beating, then that love is already dead.

She warned that staying in such a relationship can lead to serious injuries or even death. She said no one should stay where there is violence just because of love, children, or fear of society.

The MP also talked about a case where a woman is accused of attacking a man. She said the woman should be arrested and charged like any other suspect.

Millie made it clear that gender based violence is not only about men hurting women. She said women also hurt men, and that is also gender based violence. According to her, the law should not be one-sided.

Millie Odhiambo said many men suffer in silence. Some are beaten, abused, or insulted by their partners, but they fear to speak out. She said society laughs at men or tells them to be strong instead of helping them.

She called this very wrong. She said pain is pain, whether it is felt by a man or a woman. She also said leaders, police, and courts should take all cases of gender based violence seriously.

No one should be protected because of gender, fame, or public sympathy. If someone commits violence, that person should face the law.In the end, Millie Odhiambo urged people to choose peace.

She said when love ends, it is better to walk away alive than stay and die in violence. Walking away, she said, is not weakness. It is being wise and choosing life.
