Law enforcement agencies have officially kicked off a comprehensive search operation to locate and apprehend two individuals employed by a security company. These employees stand accused of absconding with a substantial sum of Sh94.9 million, which was designated for a critical bank delivery in the bustling city of Nairobi.
The stolen funds, originally earmarked as proceeds from Quickmart Supermarkets’ weekend sales, were initially stored within the secure confines of the security firm’s vault in the Industrial Area. At approximately 6 a.m., the duo was entrusted with the responsibility of transferring this significant amount to the Central Business District.
What adds to the intrigue of this case is the fact that, contrary to protocol, the two employees departed without the accompaniment of a police escort. The absence of the assigned officers was only noticed a short while after the vanishing act of the two employees.
To further complicate matters, the company’s vehicle was subsequently located abandoned near South C, adjacent to the southern bypass. Neither the substantial sum of money nor the two employees were found at the scene.
In response to this astonishing incident, high-ranking police officials paid a visit to the location, where they confirmed that the suspects had executed their escape and were likely picked up by another waiting vehicle.
This has raised suspicions of an inside job within the security company, prompting a thorough investigation that includes questioning the officers who were supposed to provide the essential escort for the transferred funds.
