A 23-year-old man was shot dead in Kawangware, Nairobi, after he and another man allegedly stole a mobile phone from an armed man.
The incident happened on Friday, September 18, 2026, with police later responding to the scene near the Equity Bank area.

The two suspects are said to have sped away from the scene on the motorcycle. The armed man allegedly pursued them on another motorcycle before catching up with them.
Police reports indicate that the gun holder opened fire during the pursuit, hitting Muriuki. The 23-year-old reportedly fell from the moving motorcycle and died at the scene.
The motorcycle rider accompanying him managed to escape and his whereabouts remained unknown.
After the shooting, the armed man allegedly recovered his mobile phone before fleeing the area on his motorcycle.
Police officers who arrived at the scene found Muriuki’s body lying face down on the road. He had sustained one visible gunshot wound.
Detectives from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) based in Dagoretti later visited the scene and began collecting evidence as part of investigations into the incident.
Muriuki’s body was subsequently taken to the City Mortuary, where it is being held pending an autopsy.
Investigators are seeking to establish exactly what happened during the confrontation and identify the person who fired the weapon.
Police are also working to recover the cartridge used in the shooting and have started reviewing CCTV footage from the surrounding area.
The motorcycle allegedly used by the shooter had not been identified by investigators.
The incident comes amid ongoing police efforts to tackle crimes involving motorcycle gangs in Nairobi and other urban areas, with authorities conducting operations targeting suspected offenders.
