Ruto Mother

They say that the purest form of love is that of a mother. A mother will always hold your hand and believe the best in you no matter what the situation.

Mama Cheruiyot is the mother of president William Samoei Ruto. The President’s mother has always kept away from the spotlight.

Until now, the last time she was in the public eye was when the late former Independent Electoral And Boundaries Commission (IEBC) Chairman Wafula Chebukati announced her son as the President elect.

According to her son, she played a vital role in his life and he even got to honor her on Mother’s day with a glowing tribute.

“Dear mom, you are a special gift to me. You will always have a special place in my heart. Through you, allow me to pay special tribute to our mothers on this special Mother’s day.

Thank you for nurturing me. Thank you for praying for me. You are my strength.

President William Ruto once proposed to build a mansion for his parents but they declined.

In a past interview with The Standard when reporters visited his mother Sarah Cheruiyot at Kamagut Village in Uasin Gishu County, she stated the reason for the decision.

When the then DP established his businesses in Nairobi, he volunteered to upgrade the living conditions of his family back at home.

For Sarah, she prioritised education more than lifestyle and when her son went to her with the plan to build a state-of-the-art home, she let him down easy.

Instead, they asked Ruto to direct the money towards his siblings’ education.

“We did not see the need for a big house then as we were satisfied with what we had. Our concern was education,” Sarah told the reporters.

Why did Ruto’s parents turn down his offer to build a home for them?

Sarah claimed that shortly after they founded a business in Nairobi, Ruto demanded that they build a house for them, but they graciously turned him down.

The pair decided that it made sense to use the money to support his siblings’ college education.

Before moving to his Sugoi home and purchasing a farm, Ruto spent a considerable amount of time living in the same compound as his parents. More than ten years ago, Mzee Daniel Cheruiyot, Ruto’s father, passed away.
