President William Ruto on Friday, April 30, hosted Kenyan marathon sensation Sabastian Sawe at State House in Nairobi, in recognition of his remarkable world record performance.Sawe, who stunned the athletics world with his historic feat in London, presented the Head of State with the pair of running shoes he wore during the record-breaking race — the Adidas Adios Pro Evo 3.
The gesture symbolized both gratitude and national pride, as Kenya continues to dominate global long-distance running.
According to the manufacturer, the high-performance shoes retail at approximately 500 US dollars and have already built a reputation in elite competition.
They have been linked to multiple world records and major marathon victories across the globe, further highlighting their role in modern athletics innovation.
The shoes weighed just 97 grams, which is the lightest Adizero shoe ever made. In fact, it is 30% lighter than the previous version of the same shoe.
Speaking during meeting, President Ruto described Sawe’s achievement as more than just a victory on the track, terming it a milestone in human endurance.He noted that the athlete had pushed the boundaries of what many believed was possible, inspiring millions both locally and internationally.
“Sabastian did not only break a record, he expanded the horizon of human potential. He has made the impossible possible,” Ruto said.
The President also reaffirmed the government’s commitment to investing in sports development.
He emphasized the need to nurture young talent and create sustainable opportunities through improved training facilities and structured support systems.
Sawe’s triumph adds to Kenya’s rich legacy in marathon running and reinforces the country’s position as a powerhouse in global athletics.
