Arthur Johnson Sakaja is spending his first term as Nairobi’s governor, having defeated all of his opponents in the 2022 elections. However, since taking office, the veteran leader has yet to delight inhabitants of the Metropolitan City area. Having been recognized as one of the bottom ten lowest performing County Governors in recent development and infrastructure polls.
This has given his competitors a free license to criticize him for failing to produce as promised. Political analysts believe that even some of his fans, who voted for him enthusiastically, have begun to lose trust. Sakaja recently appeared in an interview, indicating that he needs more time to fulfill what he promised on the campaign trail season, asking citizens to be patient and continue trusting in him.
Already many powerful politicians have publicly revealed that they are going to challenge the incumbent governor in 2027. According to my Opinion, this is the only leader who can defeat Sakaja in the next general elections beating him hands down.
Babu Owino
Paul Ongili, also known as Babu Owino, a member of parliament from Embakasi East, has officially stated his desire to run for president. The politician has been Sakaja’s most vocal critic, particularly on social media, where he has urged him to wake up to his responsibilities.
Babu, who is serving his second term as an MP, is one of the most powerful politicians in the country, particularly in Nairobi County, where he has been well-known since his tenure as a student leader at the University of Nairobi. He has been at the vanguard of the effort to ensure that youth and other residents receive adequate government services.
The ODM leader has already stated that in 2027, he will face Johnson in a tough challenge that he is confident of winning early in the morning. Given Babu’s widespread popularity in the city, his close ties with Azimio coalition leader Raila Odinga, and the possibility of running on the ODM’s party ticket, Owino has the potential to outperform Sakaja and easily win the governor seat.
Nairobi is Azimio’s stronghold, with Babu being one of the most popular leaders among area inhabitants owing to his speaking boldness and the beneficial impact he has had on Embakasi East through various development initiatives. This will entice others to choose him without second thought, believing he will give gifts.
