Elizabeth Wanjiru, popularly known as “Charity” from the famous Mother-In-Law television show, was once married to Ugandan politician Shem Bageine. Many Kenyans know Wanjiru for her long acting career, but few are aware of her connection to the veteran Ugandan leader.
Shem Bageine served as Uganda’s Minister of State for East African Affairs and also represented his country in regional leadership positions. He became influential in East African politics after relocating back to Uganda years after living in Kenya.
The two reportedly met while studying at Makerere University, where they both participated in drama activities. Their friendship later developed into marriage after moving to Nairobi. Together, they helped establish a drama club at the University of Nairobi before starting a family.
However, their marriage later faced serious difficulties, leading to separation after more than a decade together. Wanjiru previously revealed that they had different ambitions and lifestyles, which created tension in their relationship.
After returning to Uganda, Bageine rose through political ranks and became a respected regional leader. Despite their separation, the story of the actress and the politician remains one of the little-known relationships involving a famous Kenyan television personality.
