The family of the late Senator Gerald Otieno Kajwang’ gathered in somber unity on Wednesday to honor the life and legacy of Dr. Rose Bujehela Otieno, during an emotional memorial service.Her son and daughter stood beside their mother’s casket, their faces reflecting sorrow and pride for a woman whose life touched many within and beyond academic circles.
The service, attended by relatives, colleagues, and friends, was a heartfelt tribute to the late Dr. Otieno’s enduring impact as a mentor, educator, and loving matriarch.
Until her passing, Dr. Otieno served as a Senior Lecturer and Director of Endowment and Alumni Programmes at Kenyatta University.
Those who worked closely with her described her as a compassionate leader who valued knowledge, integrity, and service to others.
Her contributions to education and her commitment to nurturing young minds earned her immense respect among students and peers alike.Speakers at the memorial highlighted her unwavering faith and devotion to family, remembering her as a woman of wisdom and quiet strength.
Dr. Rose will be laid to rest on Friday, November 7, in Waondo Village, Suba North Constituency, beside her late husband, Senator Gerald Otieno Kajwang’.
Her late husband, Gerald Otieno Kajwang’, was among the outspoken members of ODM Movement and a close ally of party leader the late Raila Odinga.
Kajwang’ first rose to prominence in national politics in the 1990s and later cemented his position as one of ODM’s key figures in the Nyanza region.
He served as the Member of Parliament for Mbita Constituency, elected in the December 2007 parliamentary election under the ODM ticket.
