A shocking revelation has emerged in the ongoing investigation into the brutal murder of GSU officer Ramadhan Matanka, with detectives confirming that the prime suspect once worked at State House Nairobi.
According to the Directorate of Criminal Investigations, the killer was working in State House Nairobi, where he first met the victim.Investigations show that Matanka and the suspect, identified as Kithuka Kimunyi, developed a close friendship years earlier while serving in the State House Green Army, a youth team formed to clean the environment around the premises.
Matanka, who was only 30 years old, had served two presidents and was described by colleagues as disciplined and ambitious.
He joined the General Service Unit after being selected by former President Uhuru Kenyatta during a State House event. His duties included screening vehicles and pedestrians at the main gates.
Detectives say that on the day of the killing, CCTV footage captured Kimunyi entering the security booth at State House’s Gate D, where he spoke with Matanka for several minutes before attacking him with an arrow.
Witnesses said the two had been chatting calmly moments before the fatal strike.
Initial reports from police had suggested that a loitering armed man shot the officer with a bow and arrow after being challenged to stop. However, investigators have since clarified that the suspect was known to the officer and had been allowed into the booth due to their past friendship.
A Nairobi court has allowed detectives to detain Kimunyi for 14 days as investigations continue.
Matanka was buried at his family home in Kajiado, as colleagues and friends continue to mourn a man who had served his country with dedication.
