Veteran Swahili TV journalist and Mvita MP aspirant Lulu Hassan was escorted to her vehicle after a crowd surrounded her following an outdoor event.

A video shared on Friday, October 2, 2026, showed Lulu walking towards her waiting car as several people gathered around her and appeared to ask for handouts.

Her security team quickly formed a human corridor around her and cleared a path to the vehicle.

The situation forced Lulu to move quickly as the crowd continued closing in. She eventually reached her car and was driven away from the scene.

The incident has attracted attention because Lulu is preparing to venture into politics after years in the media industry.

She is seeking the Mvita parliamentary seat in Mombasa ahead of the 2027 General Election.

Lulu has been a familiar face on Kenyan television for years, particularly through her work in Swahili broadcasting.

Crowds asking politicians and aspirants for money or other assistance are common during public gatherings such as rallies, funerals and fundraisers.

Some candidates have said such expectations can be difficult to manage, while critics argue that handouts can shift attention away from policy issues during campaigns.

Lulu’s move from journalism to politics has also increased public interest in her appearances and activities ahead of the 2027 polls.
