A tense political moment unfolded in Lumakanda, Kakamega County, during the burial of former Cabinet Minister and Lugari MP Cyrus Jirongo. What was meant to be a solemn farewell turned into a platform for sharp political messaging after activist Philip Kisia delivered a hard-hitting address in the presence of senior leaders.

The funeral was attended by top national figures, including Prime Cabinet Secretary Musalia Mudavadi and National Assembly Speaker Moses Wetang’ula. Other leaders present included Cabinet Secretaries, governors, members of parliament, and local leaders. Thousands of mourners gathered to honor Jirongo, a powerful political figure who played a key role in Kenyan politics for decades.

As leaders took turns to speak, Philip Kisia used his moment to raise concerns about leadership, honesty, and political accountability. He directly addressed Mudavadi and Wetang’ula, reminding them of past political promises and urging them to reflect on their role in shaping the country’s future. His remarks drew loud reactions from the crowd, with some cheering while others watched in silence.

Kisia spoke firmly and confidently, accusing senior leaders of enjoying power while ordinary citizens continue to struggle. He pointed to land issues in Ruai and questioned the celebrations of wealth by politicians when many Kenyans are facing hardship. His message focused on responsibility and the need for leaders to stay connected to the people they serve.
