Former Tahidi High actress Wambui Njoroge popularly known as Mama Jimmy from the show, has cautioned actors from begging and playing the sympathy card to attract the attention of Kenyans.
Speaking at an interview, Wambui Njoroge, whose TV character was of a noisy kitchen staff, admitted that acting is a well-paying career that can transform one’s life if managed well.
Narrating how the end of Tahidi show impacted her, Mama Jimmy, as she is popularly known, disclosed that her acting gigs came to an abrupt end thanks to the pandemic, which also affected her side hustles.
However, when asked about how she felt when fellow thespians take to social media to plead for help from Kenyans, Mama Jimmy revealed that she did not see the need to take their problems to innocent Kenyans and burden them.
In the interview, she stated that pity and compassion were in the past and challenged fellow actors to think outside the box.
“Every Kenyan is a hustler, why should I take my problems and put them on you or any other person? Then every time I’m crying saying ‘woiye”? Time for pity and compassion is in the past and we can’t all fit at state house. All of us can never be politicians,” she said.
Commenting on how she managed to save up and become financially stable, Mama Jimmy confessed that she had to sacrifice a lot to save and invest.
“I had to sacrifice a lot, when some of my former colleagues were going out after payday to enjoy themselves, I have never followed them. I had to stick to my goal,” she added.
Her sentiments came when her former colleague Joseph Kinuthia aka Omosh, was the talk of town after several setbacks when Tahidi High came to an end.
Recently, Omosh revealed that the people who had promised to help him out earlier never fulfilled their promises. However, he quickly issued an apology and blamed it all on alcohol.
“Have you ever done something and wondered, ‘why did I do that?’ You even go ahead and hate yourself for doing it. You do something and feel ‘Oh my God, I wish I never did it?’ Reason being? I knew I had annoyed Kenyans. You do something, but you don’t think it would annoy anyone,” he stated.
