The father of Kenyan musician Stoopid Boy, George William Ochieng Awili, has explained why he wants his son to be buried in Siaya. He said he wants to honour a wish the musician had shared several times before his death.Speaking during an interview, Ochieng said his son had told him that if he died, his remains should be taken to his ancestral home in Siaya. He said he was determined to respect the late musician’s wishes.
“I just want to fulfil my son’s wishes. He told me, ‘My dad, if I die, take me to my home in Siaya,’” Ochieng said. He added that he wanted his son’s body to be taken to Alego, Siaya, for burial.
Stoopid Boy’s uncle, Eric Odhiambo, also supported the decision, saying the family wanted to give the musician a peaceful send-off based on the wish he had repeatedly expressed. He said the family wanted to respect what the late musician had wanted.
The family’s position comes amid a dispute over where Stoopid Boy should be buried. Different views have emerged, with some family members reportedly supporting Nyandarua, where his mother is based, while others want him buried at his father’s home in Siaya.
A family friend, Moses, said Stoopid Boy, whose real name was Edgar, had clearly expressed his wish to be buried in Siaya. He said the musician wanted to be laid to rest at his father’s ancestral home. The family is now expected to resolve the disagreement and determine where the late musician will finally be buried.
