The father of late Arbantone musician Stoopid Boy has come to the defence of media personality and podcaster Oga Obinna following criticism directed at him after the artist’s death.
George William Ochieng Awili said the entertainer should not be blamed for his son’s struggles or demise, dismissing claims circulating on social media that Obinna may have contributed to the challenges faced by the musician.
According to Awili, Stoopid Boy had battled depression for a long time, including before he met or interacted with Oga Obinna.
The grieving father said that rather than worsening his son’s situation, Obinna had attempted to help him during a difficult period.
“Sitaki Obinna aharibiwe jina. He played his part in trying to help my son,” Awili said, appealing to members of the public to stop directing blame at the podcaster.
The comments come amid an online backlash following the death of Stoopid Boy, with some social media users questioning the circumstances surrounding his struggles and his appearances on entertainment platforms.
Some critics had also linked his mental health difficulties to discussions involving public figures who had hosted him, prompting renewed debate over the responsibility of content creators when dealing with vulnerable entertainers.
However, Awili urged Kenyans to avoid speculation as the family comes to terms with the loss. He said continued accusations would only add to the distress being experienced by relatives during the mourning period.
Stoopid Boy, whose real name was Edgar, died on August 27, 2026. His death was announced by Oga Obinna, who mourned the musician on social media.
The young artist had gained popularity through his Arbantone music, particularly his hit song “G Bag Na Jug”. He had previously spoken publicly about substance abuse and underwent rehabilitation in 2025 with assistance from people within the entertainment industry.
His father has now asked the public to allow the family to mourn peacefully and give Stoopid Boy a dignified send-off.
