Gospel artiste Stephen Kasolo has become the first musician to respond to former Meru Governor Kawira Mwangaza’s challenge by releasing a song inspired by her now-viral statement, “Nikiwa ndani mnalia, nikiwa nje mnalia.”
The track, which dropped on Tuesday, July 22, 2025, celebrates Mwangaza’s resilience and defiant spirit against her political critics, coming just days after she pledged a Ksh100,000 reward to any artiste who would create a song with the phrase.
The former governor made the bold statement on Saturday, July 19, 2025, during the launch of her new political party, taking a swipe at Meru politicians who had opposed her leadership both during her tenure and even after her impeachment.
In her fiery statement, Mwangaza questioned why the section of leaders continued to cry foul even after impeaching her, insisting that their relentless attacks only proved she was unstoppable and remained firmly on their radar.
That was when she dangled the hefty reward, declaring that she wanted a signature song built around the phrase to silence her critics and send them a stern, unshakeable message.
“They cry when I am in, they cry when I am out, and just the other day they started crying again. I have a reward of one hundred thousand shillings for all artistes. Whoever goes to the studio and produces a great song must ensure the song includes this line, ‘When I am in you cry; when I am out, you cry,” she said during the event, igniting a social media storm that quickly turned her words into a trending phrase.
Kasolo’s song, which fuses upbeat gospel rhythms with a political undertone, not only captures the viral sentiment but also pays tribute to Mwangaza’s tough political journey.
The song starts with the gospel singer’s signature metallic beats, which play for close to a minute before he begins throwing in intros, including those that mention Mwangaza’s name, before the real lyrics begin.
The song, by the time of this reporting, was just an hour past its premiere time, and it had already crossed 500 views on YouTube.
Fans have already started flooding the song’s video with comments, praising the artiste for creatively blending the catchy line with powerful lyrics that highlight endurance and faith amidst adversity.
Mwangaza’s reaction
The former Meru Governor, whose meteoric rise to politics started after she won the Woman Representative seat as an independent candidate, quickly reacted to reports that Kasolo had joined her challenge.
She reposted a poster of the song and insisted that she was happy that her challenge had been taken up by singers beyond Meru County.
She also revealed that she will very soon be welcoming Kasolo to perform in one of her rallies as she continues to drum up support against Governor Mutuma M’ethingia’s leadership, which took over after she was ousted.
“Kitui County well represented! Calling you soon at #CanaanRanch stadium, Ntumburi,” Mwangaza posted.
