Acting ODM party leader Dr Oburu Oginga has sparked speculations that he is grooming Embakasi East MP Babu Owino to be the future Nyanza region political kingpin after meeting him on Thursday.
The Siaya County senator showered Owino with praise, saying that he has a promising future.
“Hon. Babu Owino symbolizes the vibrant energy and determination of our youth. He has a promising future, and we are together,” the Siaya County senator said.
The development comes amid jostling for the Luo Nyanza region political kingpin position following the death of former Prime Minister Raila Odinga a fortnight ago.
Owino is seen as one of the front runners to take over the leadership of the Luo Nyanza region which Raila had led for the last three decades.
Since taking over as ODM party leader after the death of Raila, Dr Oburu has been trying to reconcile the orange party, which has seen the emergence of several factions.
But his meeting with Owino will no doubt continue eliciting mixed reactions amid claims that he may have settled on the vocal MP to fit into Raila’s shoes.
