Former nominated senator Gloria Orwoba has opened up about a little-known chapter of her life, revealing that before stepping into public service, she once dreamed of becoming a radio presenter.
Speaking during an interview on Kameme FM, Orwoba shared that her passion for media pushed her to seek help from her uncle, veteran broadcaster Fred Obachi Machoka, hoping he would help her land an opportunity in radio.
According to Orwoba, she boldly approached Machoka and expressed her interest in joining the industry. However, her uncle declined, saying he did not want to get into trouble with her father.
“He looked at me and told me, ‘I don’t want any issues with your father. Just stay put for now,’” she recalled with laughter.
Despite the rejection, Orwoba said she remained determined to chase opportunities and refused to sit idle. Her persistence eventually caught the attention of her father, who guided her toward a different path.
She revealed that her father helped her secure an architecture opportunity at Jomo Kenyatta University of Agriculture and Technology, marking the beginning of her professional journey.
Orwoba holds a diploma in architecture from the University of Nairobi and a degree in social work. She is currently pursuing a degree in leadership and management.
Her story highlights how life can take unexpected turns, sometimes leading to paths greater than the ones we first imagined.
