Edwin Sifuna

Nairobi Senator Edwin Sifuna has stirred public discussion after offering strong advice to female university students: keep your eyes on your books, not on relationships. Addressing young women in higher education, he emphasized the need to prioritize academics during the formative years of university life.

Sifuna’s remarks come at a time when concerns are growing about the pressures and distractions students face on campus. With social expectations, peer influence, and new freedoms, many young women find themselves navigating complex relationships that can sometimes overshadow their academic focus.

The senator didn’t mince his words. His message was direct and unapologetic—relationships can wait, but education is time-sensitive. He warned that placing too much attention on romantic affairs often leads to emotional turmoil and missed opportunities. In his view, campus is a stepping stone, not a destination, and students should treat it as such.
