Kenyan social media is once again on fire and this time it is not just about the viral drunk woman video, but the heated reactions that followed after socialite Amber Ray broke her silence.
Amber Ray took to her Instagram Stories to express solidarity with the woman captured in the trending clip that left many Kenyans disturbed. In a series of emotional posts, Amber Ray said what she saw was not just content but a painful reminder of how unsafe the world still is for women.
She strongly condemned the act of recording, touching and laughing at a woman in a vulnerable state, insisting that vulnerability is not consent, silence is not permission and drunkenness should never be treated as entertainment.
According to Amber Ray, many women end up in dangerous situations not because they are careless, but because they lack financial independence. She added that money gives women the power to leave early, say no without fear and protect their dignity.
However, Amber Ray’s message did not sit well with everyone.
A section of Kenyans felt the conversation was being tilted in one direction, arguing that accountability should apply to all parties involved. Fitness enthusiast Tileh Pacbro openly challenged the narrative, stating that while the man involved deserves punishment for his actions, women should also be taught to live within their means and avoid placing themselves in compromising situations.
Tileh’s remarks sparked another heated debate online, with some accusing him of victim blaming, while others praised him for saying what many were afraid to say.
“This gender debate is becoming one sided,” one user commented.
“Being drunk does not remove responsibility,” another added.
Others, however, stood firmly with Amber Ray, arguing that no level of accountability justifies exploiting someone’s weakest moment for clout and laughter.
