MP Peter Salasya has criticized the Climax bus driver and questioned how the accident involving former Lugari MP Cyrus Jirongo was handled by authorities.
In an Instagram post, Salasya expressed frustration with how casually the driver spoke about the fatal accident that claimed Jirongo’s life on Saturday. The MP questioned how someone could discuss such a serious incident as if nothing serious had happened.
Salasya also slammed Climax management for remaining silent following the tragedy. He pointed out that the bus company should have issued an official statement about the accident instead of staying mute.
The Mumias East MP raised concerns about the investigation process, suggesting that police should have collected detailed reports from the driver, conductor, passengers and eyewitnesses separately. He criticized the decision to allow the driver to give his statement inside the police station, calling it unethical and unprofessional.
“I think it could have been even better for the climax management to give an official statement from their own investigation,” Salasya wrote in his post.
The legislator also expressed broader concerns about Kenya’s approach to road safety, stating that the country is not serious enough about addressing the causes of accidents and finding solutions to the problem that claims dozens of lives on roads daily.
Jirongo died following a road accident involving a Climax bus on Saturday. According to initial reports, the driver claimed he hit Jirongo’s vehicle after it was allegedly in the wrong lane.
Salasya’s post has sparked debate online, with many Kenyans sharing his concerns about accountability and proper investigation procedures in fatal road accidents. The incident has reignited conversations about road safety in the country.
