Nairobi Senator Edwin Sifuna has candidly shared his academic challenges during his time at Musingu High School in Kakamega County, revealing that Mathematics and Chemistry were particularly difficult subjects for him.

Sifuna, who attended the boys’ boarding school from 1996 to 1999, disclosed that he frequently scored an E in Mathematics before eventually improving to a C in his KCSE examination. He also recalled scoring only 16 per cent in Chemistry, prompting him to drop the subject in Form Two.

Despite these struggles, the senator excelled in English, Kiswahili and Geography, strengths that later influenced his career path and qualified him for law studies when university course clusters were released.

In June 2025, Sifuna returned to his former school after 26 years to address the Form Four Class. He described the experience as emotional and memorable.

Sifuna’s journey serves as an encouragement to students facing academic difficulties, demonstrating that poor performance in certain subjects does not determine one’s future success. His story highlights the importance of identifying personal strengths while persevering through challenges.

Musingu High School, known for its strong sporting tradition with teams like the Scorpions football club, continues to produce notable achievements in both academics and athletics.
