Police in Nyakach Constituency, Siaya County, have arrested a man with crude weapons and a teargas canister after foiling plans to disrupt the ongoing Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) party polls at Kodingo chief’s camp.
Four of his accomplices however escaped narrowly after they were accosted by members of the public who had turned up for the exercise.
The suspect who was cornered was armed with a teargas canister and police officers who were on patrol rushed to his rescue and took him to the hospital after members of the public had descended on him with kicks and blows.
The suspect, according to party supporters, was in the company of other four youths, when they stormed Kodingo chief’s camp in Nyakach where the election of sub-county officials was to be conducted.
A teargas canister, pangas and knives were recovered from the suspect and his accomplices who escaped after thorough beatings.
When interrogated, the suspect said they had come from the neighbouring Nyando constituency and were hired by a certain politician to disrupt the election.
