Kericho Senator Aaron Cheruiyot has launched a scathing attack on retired President Uhuru Kenyatta, urging him to stay away from politics and emulate former presidents Daniel arap Moi and Mwai Kibaki.
Speaking strongly, Cheruiyot questioned why Uhuru continues to involve himself in political matters despite leaving office. He noted that Moi and Kibaki chose a quieter life after their retirement and never interfered with the governments that succeeded them.
“When Moi retired, did you ever hear him speak politics? When Kibaki left, did you hear him engaging in useless political debates? Uhuru should learn to be gracious,” Cheruiyot said.
The senator accused Uhuru of failing the country during his tenure, claiming he squandered the opportunity Kenyans gave him to lead.
According to Cheruiyot, instead of guiding the nation effectively, Uhuru left behind a struggling economy and deep divisions.
“Kenyans gave you the chance to lead but you destroyed our country. Keep quiet and deal with your issues privately,” he added.
Cheruiyot’s remarks come at a time when Uhuru Kenyatta has been vocal in defending his political allies and criticizing the current administration.
His continued involvement in politics has drawn mixed reactions, with some seeing it as his right while others insist he should step aside.
The comparison with Moi and Kibaki is significant. After their presidencies, both men retreated from the political limelight, rarely commenting on national issues.
Their silence is often cited as an example of statesmanship and respect for their successors.
Cheruiyot’s hard-hitting message reflects growing tensions between President William Ruto’s allies and the former head of state.
As the political scene continues to heat up, the debate on whether Uhuru should remain active or retire quietly is far from over.
