Residents of Naivasha are reeling in shock after three people, including a well-known businessman, lost their lives in two separate road accidents along the busy Nairobi–Nakuru highway.

The incidents, which occurred hours apart, have once again drawn attention to the growing number of fatal crashes on one of the country’s most dangerous roads.

According to police reports, the first accident took place near Kayole trading centre when a speeding truck lost control and rammed into a private car.

The impact killed a prominent Naivasha businessman on the spot, leaving his vehicle completely wrecked.

Witnesses said the businessman, who owned several retail shops in Naivasha town, was on his way to Nairobi for a business meeting when tragedy struck.

In the second incident, two pedestrians were fatally knocked down near Mai Mahiu as they attempted to cross the road. Both victims succumbed to their injuries before help could arrive.

The driver involved in the accident reportedly fled the scene, prompting police to launch a manhunt.

Confirming the incidents, Naivasha Sub-County Police Commander warned motorists to adhere to speed limits and exercise caution, especially along pedestrian crossings.

We are deeply concerned about the increasing number of fatalities on this stretch. Most of these accidents are preventable if road users follow traffic rules,” he said.

The bodies of the deceased were taken to Naivasha Sub-County Hospital Mortuary as investigations continue.

Meanwhile, friends and relatives of the late businessman described him as a hardworking and generous figure who had greatly contributed to the local economy.

The twin tragedies have left the Naivasha community mourning and renewed calls for stricter road safety enforcement and improved pedestrian infrastructure along the Nairobi–Nakuru highway.
