Residents of Uasin Gishu County were left in shock after a senior police officer allegedly shot and killed his wife and another man after finding them together in his matrimonial bed.

The tragic incident occurred on a day when the country was gripped by nationwide maandamano (protests), with police officers stretched across the region to maintain order.

According to preliminary reports, the officer had just returned home late in the evening after a demanding day controlling demonstrators when he unexpectedly found his wife in bed with another man.

Overcome with rage, he reportedly drew his service weapon and shot both of them on the spot, killing them instantly.

After the incident, the officer is said to have calmly reported himself at a nearby police station, confessing to the double murder.

Shocked colleagues quickly rushed to the scene, where they found the two bodies lying in the bedroom.

Police officers secured the scene and launched investigations into the matter. The motive is believed to be a crime of passion, but authorities are also probing whether there were any prior signs of domestic conflict.

Uasin Gishu County Criminal Investigations Officer confirmed the incident, stating that a full investigation is underway to establish the exact circumstances.

The bodies of the deceased have since been moved to the Moi Teaching and Referral Hospital mortuary for postmortem examinations.
