Drama unfolded in Kilgoris, Narok County, after a senior driver attached to the Ministry of Health was drugged and robbed of a government vehicle loaded with medical supplies.
The incident, which occurred early Monday morning, has left both local authorities and ministry officials in disbelief as investigations intensify.
According to police reports, the driver was en route to deliver essential drugs to several health centers in the region when he was intercepted by unknown individuals pretending to be health officers.
It is believed that the suspects lured the driver into a nearby center for “verification of documents” before drugging him and making away with the government-issued vehicle, a white Toyota Land Cruiser.
The victim was later found dumped at Sotik, Bomet County, several kilometers away, unconscious and in critical condition.
Good Samaritans rushed him to a nearby hospital, where he is currently receiving treatment. Medical personnel confirmed that he had been drugged using an unknown substance.
The vehicle, which was carrying a consignment of government-supplied drugs valued at millions of shillings, is yet to be recovered.
Police have launched a manhunt for the suspects, describing the incident as a well-coordinated and planned robbery targeting public resources.
Narok County Police Commander confirmed that detectives from both Narok and Bomet counties are collaborating in tracing the stolen vehicle and identifying the culprits.
He urged members of the public to provide any information that could aid in the investigation.
The shocking incident has sparked outrage among residents and health officials, who now fear that the stolen drugs might find their way into the black market.
Authorities have vowed to leave no stone unturned until the vehicle and stolen consignment are recovered.
