Residents of Kakamega County are reeling in shock after a 59-year-old woman allegedly killed her 62-year-old husband following a domestic dispute over milk.
The tragic incident, which has left the local community stunned, reportedly occurred after the husband sold milk and used the money to buy alcohol instead of supporting the family.
According to reports, the woman is said to have attacked her husband with a panga inside their compound, killing him on the spot before fleeing. Blood-stained clothes left at the scene painted a grim picture of the deadly confrontation.
The couple’s daughter, Praxides, defended her father, saying he was not violent and often kept to himself despite his drinking habits.
“Our father was not a bad person. We understood him. It is our mother who was always fighting and looking down on people. My father was peaceful,” she said.
Neighbours described the deceased as a hardworking man who earned a living by treating livestock with a pump machine and selling milk. However, they noted that he would sometimes spend part of his earnings on alcohol.
“He would go out and enjoy himself, but he never harmed anyone,” one neighbour said.
The area chief revealed that the family had recently appeared before him to settle their disputes. According to the chief, both husband and wife had reconciled and promised to live peacefully.
“They shook hands and agreed to return home in harmony. That is why I was shocked to hear he had been killed,” the chief said.
The incident has sparked reactions online, with many Kenyans linking the tragedy to rising domestic violence and financial struggles affecting families.
