Kenyan content creator Sheryl Gabriella has sparked another debate on social media after reportedly appealing to Kenyans for financial assistance following the death of her father, Joseph Mutai.
The appeal has attracted mixed reactions, with some social media users offering messages of sympathy while others have revisited comments Sheryl previously made about her financial success and her views on people who seek small amounts of financial help.
Sheryl became a major topic of discussion in July 2026 after sharing details about her earnings from social media. She posted a screenshot showing approximately $484.74, equivalent to about KSh62,800, earned from a single TikTok Live session. The livestream reportedly attracted more than 11,000 viewers.
Around the same period, the content creator criticised comparisons between herself and women she described as financially struggling and seeking KSh2,000 urgently. Her remarks generated criticism from some Kenyans, who accused her of looking down on people experiencing financial difficulties.
She has also spoken publicly about her income from brand partnerships. Sheryl claimed that one company pays her KSh350,000 monthly, while another reportedly pays KSh130,000 for a promotional video. She also mentioned a separate partnership earning her KSh60,000 each month.
The content creator has previously discussed her TikTok earnings as well, claiming that one of her most successful livestreams generated KSh250,000 within three hours.
Following her father’s death, Sheryl has reportedly sought financial support from the public to help with funeral arrangements and give him a decent send-off.
Her appeal has consequently reopened debate surrounding her earlier statements. Some Kenyans have urged the public to show compassion, arguing that bereavement can create unexpected financial pressure regardless of someone’s income.
Others have criticised her decision to seek assistance, pointing to her previous claims about earning substantial amounts of money.
