A Nairobi lawyer has opened up about the painful mistake that cost him his marriage, admitting that advice from friends in a so-called “men’s conference” led to the collapse of a relationship he once considered perfect.

Francis Wanjohi, an Advocate of the High Court of Kenya, shared his heartbreaking story, revealing how he unknowingly ruined a 10-year marriage after listening to friends who convinced him that he was spending too much time with his wife.

According to Wanjohi, the first three years of their marriage were filled with happiness, love, and companionship. The couple was inseparable, and many people admired their relationship. However, things changed when his friends began criticizing him for constantly communicating with his wife and spending most of his free time at home.

They advised him that a “real man” should spend more time networking with other men, building business connections, and returning home late at night. Believing the advice would help him succeed professionally, Wanjohi gradually reduced communication with his wife and prioritized spending time with friends.

Over time, the frequent phone calls, text messages, and emotional connection between the couple faded. While he assumed his wife understood his busy lifestyle, she was silently growing distant and lonely.

The shocking reality hit him one day when he returned home from work and found the house completely empty. His wife had moved out with their children and left behind a note saying she had found someone who had time for her.

The separation devastated Wanjohi. He revealed that he spent nearly a year living in his car, battling depression, chewing miraa, and struggling to come to terms with the consequences of his actions.

Looking back, the lawyer now believes that providing financially was not enough to sustain a marriage. He hopes his story will serve as a lesson to other men about the importance of communication, companionship, and emotional presence in relationships.
