Several people are feared dead after a grisly road accident in Tiaty, Baringo County. The victims were young men and women from Laikipia and Marsabit who had spent a week in Marakwet participating in a peace tournament.
The group was traveling back home when their vehicle was involved in the crash.
Witnesses reported that the accident happened on the rough Tiaty terrain, an area known for dangerous roads.
The impact left the vehicle badly damaged, with bodies trapped inside. Rescue teams and local residents rushed to the scene to help, pulling survivors from the wreckage and rushing them to nearby hospitals.
Authorities confirmed that multiple deaths occurred, though the exact number is yet to be established.
Several passengers sustained serious injuries and are receiving treatment. Police have launched investigations to determine the cause of the accident.
Authorities have also urged motorists and passengers to exercise caution, particularly when travelling on long and challenging routes.
