Nairobi politics took a new turn after Kileleshwa MCA Robert Alai publicly called out Public Service nominee Irungu Nyakera over a rent dispute involving property owned by the Lake Basin Development Authority.

In his remarks, Alai claimed that Nyakera has been involved in a prolonged disagreement with the state agency over rent payments for a facility under its management. According to the MCA, the dispute has already reached the courts, which reportedly directed that the premises be vacated if the issue remains unresolved.

Alai said that despite the court’s guidance, Nyakera has not yet complied with the directive. He argued that leaders and public officials must demonstrate respect for institutions and legal decisions.

The MCA also commented on the history of the hotel linked to the dispute. He noted that the establishment previously operated under the global hospitality brand Best Western but later changed its identity to Fairways Hotel.May be an image of ticket stub and text

According to Alai, the change came after the franchise arrangement ended. While he suggested financial constraints could have played a role, he emphasized that the primary issue remains the unresolved rent matter with LBDA.May be an image of one or more people and people smiling

Alai further criticized attempts to involve other government officials in the controversy. He specifically mentioned Interior Principal Secretary Raymond Omollo, saying the PS should not be dragged into a dispute that does not concern his office.

“The focus should remain on settling the matter with LBDA rather than shifting attention elsewhere,” Alai said.

The Nairobi MCA concluded by urging Nyakera to address the issue urgently by either paying the rent owed or vacating the premises in accordance with the court’s direction.May be an image of text
