There was unexpected confusion at Kasarani Stadium this morning after a swarm of bees invaded the venue just moments before the public viewing of the body of ODM boss Raila Odinga began.

Security officers, journalists, and mourners who had already taken their positions were forced to run for safety, turning what was meant to be a solemn moment into sudden chaos.

In a viral clip circulating online, security personnel are seen taking cover and ducking behind vehicles as the bees hover over the stadium grounds. The short but intense disruption was captured in a video now trending on Facebook, which you can watch here.

The incident happened as final preparations were underway for Raila’s body to arrive at the stadium, where thousands of Kenyans had gathered to pay their last respects.

Officers stationed near the main dais were seen throwing away their caps and running for cover, as event organizers called for calm over the loudspeakers. A few mourners who had already filled the stands could be heard shouting “Baba protect us!” as the bees swept across the open field.

Despite the brief scare, the situation was quickly brought under control by security teams and Red Cross volunteers, who ensured order was restored before the official program resumed.

Leaders from across the country, including CS Treasury John Mbadi, CS Energy Opiyo Wandayi, and CS Mining Hassan Joho, were already seated, awaiting the arrival of the convoy carrying Raila’s remains.

For many Kenyans watching the scene unfold live, it was a moment that summed up the deep emotions surrounding Raila’s farewell—intense, unpredictable, and unforgettable. Yet even amid the chaos, the spirit of unity and respect among mourners remained firm, proving just how deeply Baba’s legacy runs through the hearts of ordinary citizens.
