There has been questions on whether schools will open next week following the heavy downpour which has caused floods across the country. However the government has set the record straight that schools will open on Monday 29th April 2024 despite the heavy rains.

Deputy president Rigathi Gachagua confirmed that schools will reopen as planned. According to the deputy president, decision regarding individual schools would be made based on the ground assessment by the education officers.

He further noted that some schools might be temporarily closed in the cases which are affected by floods. This comes after heavy rains have caused many people to relocate from their residence. Some schools and other structures have not been spared as some have been brought down by flood water.

Roads which the students use to get back to their schools have been rendered impassable as rivers fill to maximum capacity. Some parts of roads have also been washed away by water.
